AI Usage Policy

In short. OrbitSub’s AI helps you write, but it never takes over. Your text is sent to the AI provider you choose, and only when you use an AI feature. Every AI edit is shown to you to approve or discard — nothing changes on its own. AI can be wrong, so always check its output before you rely on it. What you publish is yours, and your responsibility.

This AI Usage Policy explains how the artificial-intelligence features of OrbitSub, operated by KARAN (“we”), work and how you may use them. It expands on our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which continue to apply.

1. What our AI features do

OrbitSub offers AI features to help you research and write, including:

  • Assistant — ask questions and get help that works from your draft;
  • AI editing — suggested rewrites and improvements, shown as changes you can accept or reject;
  • Outlines — suggested structures for a piece of research;
  • AI review — structured feedback such as claim checks, source suggestions, and clarity notes;
  • Citations — help finding and formatting references.

These features are optional — you choose when to use them.

2. The AI providers we use

Our AI features are powered by trusted third-party AI providers. Depending on the model you select, your request is processed by one of:

  • Microsoft — the Azure OpenAI Service.

You can choose which model to use. Some models can also read images you provide; others handle text only. Each provider processes your data under its own terms and privacy policy, which we encourage you to read.

3. Where your text goes

When — and only when — you invoke an AI feature, the necessary parts of your prompt, draft, attachments, and any sources you selected are sent to the provider of the model you chose, solely to generate the response you asked for.

  • We do not send your content to AI providers in the background or when you’re not using an AI feature.
  • If you don’t want a particular provider to process your text, simply don’t select its model.
  • Some AI reviews may use web search to find real sources; in that case a search query derived from your request is sent to the provider’s search tool.
  • We keep a record of your AI interactions within a research room so you can see your history; this is covered by our Privacy Policy.

4. You’re in control — and responsible

This is the core of how we think about AI on OrbitSub:

  • You approve every AI edit. Edits the AI proposes are shown to you as a change you can apply or discard. Nothing the AI suggests is added to your research automatically.
  • The work is yours. What you choose to accept and publish appears under your name and is your responsibility, just like anything else you write.
  • Verify before you rely. AI output can be inaccurate, outdated, incomplete, or biased, and can invent facts or sources (“hallucinate”). Always check AI-assisted claims, citations, and sources against reliable references before relying on or publishing them.
  • Not professional advice. AI output is not legal, medical, financial, academic, or other professional advice.

5. Using AI responsibly

When you use OrbitSub’s AI features, you agree that you will not:

  • use them to produce content that violates our Community Guidelines or any law — including hateful, harassing, sexual, violent, or unlawful content;
  • use AI to plagiarise, fabricate data or results, or misrepresent AI-generated content as verified fact;
  • attempt to extract, copy, reverse-engineer, or misuse the underlying AI models, or to bypass their safety measures or our usage limits;
  • submit other people’s personal or confidential data to AI features without a proper basis;
  • use AI features in a way that violates the usage policy of the underlying provider (Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service).

6. Usage limits

AI features are subject to reasonable usage limits (quotas) that may vary by plan and that we may adjust to keep the Service reliable, fair, and affordable for everyone. Attempting to circumvent these limits is not allowed.

7. Academic integrity and AI

AI is a tool to help you think and write — it doesn’t replace your judgement or your integrity. If you’re publishing academic or scholarly work, remember that your institution, publisher, or field may have its own rules about disclosing AI assistance. Those rules are between you and them; we simply ask that you use AI honestly and stand behind what you publish. Our Community Guidelines cover honesty in more detail.

8. Availability and changes

AI features depend on third-party providers and may change, be limited, or be temporarily unavailable. We may add, remove, or change models and features over time. We may update this Policy as our AI features evolve; the current version and the “Last updated” date are shown here.
